Climate & Weather

Rhodes has a mild Mediterranean climate. In September, the temperature varies from 22°C – 28°C mostly clear and sunny. The average daytime temperature in Rhodes in September is 25°C. Seawater temperature is 25.5°C, which is ideal for swimming. You should pack light clothing and swimwear.

Currency and Banking hours

The currency of Greece is the Euro.

All main Greek banks i.e. National Bank of Greece, Alpha Bank, Eurobank, Piraeus Bank have branches and ATM machines on the island. Banks are open from Monday to Friday between 8.00 to 14.00 hours. Some Branches at the centre of the City are also open in the afternoon Monday to Friday.

ATMs and Credit Cards

Automated Teller Machines (ATM) are located outside most banks. Cash can be withdrawn there, all days 24 hours (24/7). National and foreign Maestro Cards (Cash Cards) as well as Mastercard, American Express, VISA and Diners are accepted. Major credit cards are accepted almost everywhere.

Electricity supply

Voltage in Greece is 220V at a frequency of 50 Hz. Plugs are continental style, two-pin. A plug adaptor should be taken along for incompatible electric / electronic appliances that will be used.

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in all indoor public places and on all public transport. However, in general pubs and restaurants have a designated outdoor smoking area.

Opening hours

In the City of Rhodes shops are open Monday to Friday from 9.00 am to 13.00 and from 17.00 to 21.00. On Saturdays shops open at 9.00 am and close at 14.00 hours. In the Medieval Town & tourist areas Monday-Sunday shops are open all day long.

Restaurants and cafes have varying opening hours, but lunch is most often served between 12.30 and 14.30. Dinner is usually served from 18.00 until late in the evening.

Emergency Numbers

Whilst in Greece, European Union citizens may seek any help they might need (police, ambulance, fire brigade, coast guard) by dialing the number 112 from anywhere in Greece. The number is answered by English-speaking staff, and may be dialed from public telephones or mobile telephones.
